Why do some doctors tell you to not take flax-seed or fish oil before injections but fail to tell you not to eat salmon, tuna, lake trout, walnuts, chocolate, soy, shrimp, scallops, halibut, chicken, eggs, milk and a host of other foods - all of which are rich in omega-3's? I just ate salmon at noon today, it has roughly 1,500 mg of omega-3's in one serving - half of the recommended daily allowance. True, omega-3's help thin the blood and some people are much more prone to bruising than others, but I have never had a doctor tell me not to take my flax seed oil before injections or surgery. They have told me not to take asperin, Arthrotec, Plavex and some other blood thinners before surgery. I think that bruising with injections (which is not really surgery) is much more dependant on the doctor's technique or ability to give the injections rather than the amount of omega-3's that one has taken. In five years of receiving Botox injections I had only one tiny bruise which lasted for two or three days. My doctor immediately apologized when it happened and said that he accidentally wiggled the needle as he was pulling it out. Anamarie Modified by Anamarie at Sun, Sep 30, 2012, 13:58:44 |

I've never been told not to take those items you listed. I have been advised not to take blood thinners 48 hours before botox injections, including but not limited to: aspirin (Advil), gingko biloba, alcohol, heavy garlic meals. I've taken, for at least 16 of my 19 years with BEB, an over-the-counter zinc supplement 1 week before injections and 1 week after. I don't know if this helps my injections or not BUT I do go 4-6 months between injections usually. (my last injections I forgot to take the zinc and had a terrible time for a couple of months BUT that may have been because of the stress of being in the UK to see a dying sister and my hubby having a mini stroke whilst we were there). FYI, our Canadian Foundation (BEBCRF) is undergoing a study on zinc and botox - we have very limited funds, but this is happening. Take care all. June in Toronto |

I was never told a thing about preparing for my injections. A nurse waved a paper at me and told me to sign it (just in case something went wrong). I didn't even have time to read that. But I was not ever given a list of things to avoid, even blood thinners.

Hi,
I posted a few days ago and said—that, according to my doctor, the only thing to avoid would be aspirin. This came up a long time ago. He didn't say it spontaneously, either. I had asked him (years ago), since people were posting about avoiding aspirin, flaxseed oil, Vitamin E, omega supplements, etc., before injections.
If you were already taking a blood-thinner, I guess you'd already know to suspend it—if your doctor agreed; though it would never hurt to be reminded.
