Has anyone heard of low magnesium aggravating blepharospasm or seen a remarkable recovery by taking magnesium supplements? |

Janet, I don't know how it affects blepharospams , but I have been taking Magnesium 400mg everyday for several years for my fibromyalgia. It is supposed to help with muscle spasms, but since I was taking it before developing BEB, I can't say if if has made a difference. It seems to help my fibromyalgia symptoms, though. Diane |

I took magnesium for about 2 months at one point. It made no difference. Judy |

Ditto. I take 400 mg Mg every day for my bones. I stopped for about 2-3 months then started taking it again. It has had no effect on BEB or Meige symptoms--probably doesn't do anything for my bones either! But what the heck--it's cheap at Costco and doesn't hurt anything. Joellen

This has popped up over the years (12) that I've been on this bulletin board and except for someone asking about it or the rare comment that someone thought that it helped a bit, it does not seem to be helpful for blepharospasm symptoms. I'm sure that if a person is deficient in Magnesium, that it could cause or contribute to blepharospasm symptoms in susceptible individuals. It can be one of the causes for a Secondary Blepharospasm but symptoms would be easily corrected by getting your magnesium levels back up to a normal range. It won't hurt to try it though. Many people take it for various other reasons. Shirley in New Mexico |

If I took Magnesium, I'd be sitting on the pot all day. LOL |

Magnesium us useful in packaging nutrients into the vacuoules to be shipped throughout your body; however, it's most valuable use is in muscle creation. As an athlete I used to use a lot of Magnesium because it helps reduce the time of soreness as well as increase muscle tensility and re-construction. Based on that, I don't think it would help the actual BEB, but it might have some usefulness in helping prevent long-term muscle atrophy. Might be something to take to your PCP about. |
